“Crafting Difference and Constructing Boundaries: A Discussion of Latin American Migration to Chile”
Since the mid-1990s, migration to Chile has increased dramatically. This “new migration” marks a demographic shift from largely European and Argentinean to the current arrival of migrants from Peru, Bolivia, and Colombia. This presentation charts Chilean engagements in interactional and discursive efforts to create difference between themselves and migrants, thus constructing boundaries.
